What makes a strong bold portfolio
Bold rarely comes from decoration. FURO and fromanother both lean on scale and contrast instead, oversized type, hard edges, almost no ornament. X2Y Creative takes a similar approach from the studio side, one confident idea carried through the whole site rather than five smaller ones competing for attention.
A few worth studying
Estrela Studio. Heavy type, tight grid, nothing soft about it.
Gusta. Commits to one palette and one voice and doesn't waver from either.
No-Mercy. The name matches the design, blunt, direct, no transitions trying to soften it.
Worth flagging: this page is almost entirely agencies and studios. Dave Holloway and Simon Holm are the only solo designers on it, and there's no photographer or illustrator entry at all. Bold photography or illustration portfolios exist, worth sourcing a few for balance.
